He was so impressed with the area that he returned
later in 1828, and settled near the tree where he had spent
the night 9 years earlier, becoming the first white man to
do so.
Washington County was officially formed on October 17, 1828.
Nearby Fayetteville was chosen to serve as its county seat.
The Civil War soon brought violence to the region, resulting
in the destruction of many historical sites and the
accompanying records.
The Dickson Street area of Fayetteville
has been a vital part of the greater northwest Arkansas region for
over a century. Throughout its history, the street has been a place
for the community to gather and interact right in the heart of
Fayetteville. Dickson Street thrives with restaurants, offices, retail
venues and entertainment opportunities, offering fantastic food,
shopping and fun. |
