Nestled In The Heart Of The Ozarks
Elkins is a friendly Arkansas community just 8 miles southeast of Fayetteville. The region offers something for everyone from the businessman to the sportsman. Nestled amidst the Ozarks, natural beauty is evident from every vantage point. Elkins is served by State Highway 16.
The Osage Indians had hunting grounds in northwest Arkansas long before the first white man appeared. Frank Pierce came to the White River for the first time in 1819.

He was so impressed with the area that he returned later in 1828, and settled near the tree where he had spent the night 9 years earlier, becoming the first white man to do so. Washington County was officially formed on October 17, 1828. Nearby Fayetteville was chosen to serve as its county seat. The Civil War soon brought violence to the region, resulting in the destruction of many historical sites and the accompanying records.
Elkins enjoys a mild climate and reaches an average high of 89 degrees in July and August, dipping to an average low of 25 in January. Snowfall averages 1.4 inches a month from November through March. Monthly rain averages 3.8 inches.

Elkins hosts 3 public schools which cover all levels from kindergarten through 12th grade. Northwest Arkansas Community College is an alternative option half an hour away.

Since Fayetteville is so close by, Elkins provides convenient access to the many attractions of the larger town.
The Dickson Street area of Fayetteville has been a vital part of the greater northwest Arkansas region for over a century. Throughout its history, the street has been a place for the community to gather and interact right in the heart of Fayetteville. Dickson Street thrives with restaurants, offices, retail venues and entertainment opportunities, offering fantastic food, shopping and fun.
The North Arkansas Symphony features an impressive lineup of internationally known guest artists in one of the area's oldest and grandest musical traditions.
Around here, "sports" is synonymous with the Arkansas Razorbacks. UA is best known for football and basketball, but it also generates consistently strong teams in baseball, cross country, golf, tennis, volleyball, soccer and track.
Those who love the great outdoors are definitely in luck here. You can appreciate the natural beauty of the Ozark Mountains from any of the numerous area state parks. These parks offer a plethora of outdoor activities including mountain biking, spelunking, hiking, climbing, canoeing, camping and fishing.
